Agnimandya - Ayurveda concept of low digestive fire

Agnimandya ( अग्निमंद )


Hello everyone, Today I want to discuss something about our meals, disturb eating patterns because of our busy schedule. So here I am with the topic Agni and Agnimandya which is related to our eating pattern and bad choice of meals.


Agni ( अग्नि )
Agni in easy terms means a digestive fire.
There is a concept in  Ayurveda according to which the person's age, their power, health, happiness, intelligence, natural glow, immunity all depends on its Agni. 
If there is any trouble inefficiency of Agni it leads to many diseases.
So It's of utmost importance to maintain Agni for health.

Agnimandya - अग्नि + मन्द = अग्निमंद 
It means a condition in which Agni of a person is diminished from its natural state.
Agnimandya leads to many diseases, so the main principle in the treatment plan is to maintain an Agni of person.

Causes of Agnimandya
  • If a person remains empty stomach for most of the time in a day.
  • If eats more amount of food.
  • He/she doesn't follow any regular meal pattern, doesn't have a regular eating schedule whenever get time or break eats, and some people most of the time due to busy schedule skips the meal.
  • Junk spicy foods irrespective of time become the worst habit.
Symptoms 
  • A person often feels pain in the abdomen associated with flatulence.
  • He/She suffers from constipation, generalized body ache, and weakness.
  • Also a person doesn't feel good to eat food and suffered from nausea.
  • The person felt a heaviness in the body and doesn't feel enthusiastic to do work.
Treatment plan

According to Ayurveda if you or your known persons suffered from above these symptoms are-
First of all, avoid causes of Agnimandya, correct eating habits, avoid junk spicy foods, make a proper schedule of eating, start eating meal times, and avoid skipping the meal.
Then the work of your Ayurvedic consultant starts - The medicines which help in the stimulation of digestive fire will be started.
If a person is willing to do panchakarma and fit in criteria of panchakarma he/she will be inclined towards it.
Panchakarma procedures like Vamana, Virechana, or Basti is then planned accordingly. 

This is about Agnimandya in easy terms which mainly affects two groups of our society first college-going students and second working-class people as both of the groups have altered eating habits, don't have proper time to eat which somehow in some years lead to many disorders.
