Migraine- Awareness And Tips



Migraine is one of the most common neurological diseases, around 12% of the population is suffering from migraine. It is a complex disease with hallmark symptom headache. It is experienced by different age groups, a child, the young generation, and the older generation all are affected by it but majorly females are more prone to migraines.
The headache of migraine varies from person to person, someone suffers from the great intensity with some other symptoms while some not, some experience migraine attack once in a while, and some experiences 2-3 attacks in one month.
Migraine headache is usually a headache with throbbing pain, pulsatile headache associated with nausea, no appetite, not able to do any work not able to think properly. Some people suffered from vomiting and after vomiting headache starts subsiding on its own. 
It is a life long disease that not only affects the nervous system but also affects the other part of the body.
There are different theories on how actually migraine occurs but with no treatment, only symptomatic treatment is given to patients.

Migraine cycle means there are four phases whenever migraine occurs.
  1. Prodromal Phase-  A phase before the starting of a headache, a person suffers from fatigue, drowsiness, mood changes frequently, nausea, and sometimes neck stiffness is present. There is light, sound, and smell sensitivity. These symptoms last for about a few hours to some days.
  2. Aura Phase- A reversible peripheral disturbance before or during the headache like an illusion of changes in vision, unpleasant smell, or confused thinking. This phase lasts for 5-40 minutes.
  3. Migraine Attack- Moderate to severe pain in the head, nausea, and vomiting associated with light, sound, and smell sensitivity for about 4-72 hours.
  4. Postdrome Phase- After Migraine attack, for about 24-48 hours person feels weakness, fatigue, and faces difficulty in thinking.
But before the migraine cycle, there are some triggering factors for an individual, triggering factors are different for each person like stress, skipping of a meal, excessive study, excessive use of mobile phones, disturbed sleeping pattern, and so on. When different triggers combined in different ways on different days until a threshold is crossed and the nervous system reacts in the form of migraines.

Now there are some effective tips to migraines survivors that can help you in easing the migraines as it is a disorder that cannot be treated with medicines. So you are the only one to help you with migraines. You are the one who has to make some changes to help you in easing the migraine.

  • Engage yourself not only in gym exercise but do aerobic exercises such as walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, or yoga in open areas.
  • Make a proper schedule of your daily activities sleep at a particular time and wake up at a regular time, make sure to follow a proper sleep pattern.
  • Eat healthy food at the proper time, never skip your meal, for one suffering from migraine notice on their own whenever you skip a meal, your migraine usually starts. This is one of the most common trigger factors in migraine.
  • Eat fruits especially seasonal fruits.
  • Make sure to hydrate yourself, drink lots of water.
  • If you are a student or a person who is working in front of a computer then make sure to take frequent breaks after 1 hour at least for about 5-10 minutes according to your convenience.
  • Make a diary and starts writing your trigger factors either it is some stress or some fruit or vegetable. Trigger factors can be anything so starts noticing your triggering factor and starts avoiding them.

Tip- Take Makhane (fox nuts), lightly roast them in ghee, and eat it as a healthy snack. It can help you in relieving the migraine symptoms.
