Depression & Self Relaxation Techniques

Mental health is an essential component of health indeed there is no health without mental health.

According to WHO, It is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his/her abilities, can cope with normal daily life stress can work productively and can make a contribution to society. 

It is not just a mere absence of mental disorders, it plays an important role in the well being of an individual in every the perspective of their life from school-going children to the office worker and the old age. 

Mental health conditions are increasing worldwide there has been a 13% rise in mental health conditions in the last decade, around 20% of the world's children and adolescents have a mental health condition with suicide the second leading cause of death among 15-29 years old. 

There is much need for awareness of mental disorders, the various organization is creating a program to make people aware of the mental problems and to help others who are suffering from mental disorders.

It is a common saying if our body hurts, we can cry it out all and tells others about the pain but when we are suffering from emotional disturbances, or hurt emotionally, mentally we didn’t cry it out and doesn’t show others our pain which leads to mental disorders. 

While treating mental disorders, an individual as well as their family, friends all plays a crucial role when one is suffering from mental problems, their family and friends are the ones who can give them a first hand to combat the disease.

In the list of mental disorders, Depression is the most common disorder affecting 264 million peoples worldwide. 


Depression-

It is not merely a mood disorder and short-lived emotional responses to everyday challenges. It is a mental state characterized by feelings of sadness, despair, unhappiness, worthlessness, and hopelessness for a long time. It can be with moderate or severe symptoms and can become a serious mental health problem. It can lead to suicide. 

The effects of depression can be long-lasting or recurrent and can affect a person's ability to function and live a healthy happy life. 


Causes of Depression-

  1. Situational Depression- Comes from something outside the person, like loss of loved one, loss of self-esteem.
  2. Comes out of the blue without any situation or any cause.
  3. An associated symptom of chronic disorders. 
  4. Dietary deficiency, etc. 


Symptoms of Depression-

  • The trouble with concentration.
  • Trouble with memory
  • Feeling of guilt
  • Insomnia or excessive sleep
  • Feeling of hopelessness
  • Withdrawal from activities
  • Decreased social interaction
  • Decrease work productivity
  • Changes in bout habits
  • Poor appetite
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Decrease libido


Management of Depression- 

When an individual depression becomes such that he/she cannot function then must seek professional help. There are effectively psychological as well as pharmacological treatments for moderate to severe depression.  

But a person suffering from depression seeks great help from their surroundings like family or friends who can motivate them to go under counseling sessions and help in the full sessions of treatment. 

If you are suffering from depression in the starting stage, you thought you are suffering from depression and it's a start then to prevent the depression to undergo severe stages, it's you who can stop the progression of depression and make your health better. Self-motivation is the first factor in living a healthy diseased free life.  

There are some tips that can help you to combat mental disorders like-

  • Daily exercise especially aerobic exercise like walking, cycling, jogging, swimming
  • Optimistic outlook to treat your disease,
  • Healthy eating
  • Try to balance work and personal life
  • Communicate with yourself
  • Adjust your expectations, doesn't force yourself, and 
  • Self-Relaxation Techniques. 



Mental health is important as that of physical health if any part of our body is hurt then we carefully dressed the wound so that it doesn’t become infected and cause severe problems similarly it is important to dress the wound of mind and heart also to lead a healthy happy life.
